Lienen - The 1st of May 2009 saw the beginning of the seventh Barefoot Trail season. At 11am the first group of people hit the trail to explore water, stones, wood, sand etc. with the soles of their feet. During the tour a wealth of first hand information, for example about the new fir cone station, was available from the chairwoman of the Lienen Marketing Association, Corinna Aust. Children of the local primary school and the nursery school's "Forest Group" had gathered the cones in the forest and helped to finish off the new station by pouring them in, which was great fun for all concerned.

After the opening tour the water play area beckoned. The new climbing tree trunks which had been put up earlier in the year proved a great success with large numbers of children putting them both to the test.

In the afternoon many people used the traditional May Day walk to visit the Barefoot Trail and enjoy the sunshine in the beautiful park around the village pond. The Marketing Association team was pleased with the successful opening day and the large number of visitors throughout the season. Even in April many people made use of the fine weather to explore the trail. Reason enough for the organisers to move the opening day in 2010 to the 1st of April.
